The Governor's Palace Pond and Canal in Colonial Williamsburg was designed in the 1930’s, and the Foundation’s interest is to repair and improve the pond and canal to its original condition where practicable and make upgrades in the interest of maintaining the historical and functional integrity for long term stability. BCE conceptualized the proposed project in accordance with Local, State and Federal guidelines and best practices. The project included watershed evaluations and coordination with interested stakeholders, as well as bathymetric surveys, trail designs and educational blue trails using enhanced water access and launches.
Highlighted Tasks
- Site Assessment and Alternatives Analysis: BCE assessed repair/improvement alternatives to assist in conceptual design. Alternatives addressed the need for dredging, slope, toe and bank stabilization options, functional landscaping and bioengineering, stormwater management, water quality and habitat improvements.
- Bathymetric Surveys: BCE provides bathymetric surveys and utilized results to estimate dredge volumes and potential water quality enhancements.
- Canal/Pond Repair/Improvement Plans: BCE prepared conceptual repair/improvement plans showing proposed repairs to the pond and canal (including dredging) in conjunction with associated specifications and details.
