Shenandoah County is in a target watershed identified by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) as a priority area for Eastern Brook Trout habitat restoration.
Blossom Consulting and Engineering Inc. (BCE) is a registered technical service provider for NFWF and provided technical assistance and Design services through NFWF resulting in construction documents for identified infrastructure retrofit, water quality and habitat improvements in Shenandoah County.
The projects were specifically designed to yield quantifiable water quality improvements that could be utilized to help meet the goals and objectives outlined in the Chesapeake Bay Phase II Watershed Implementation Plan (WIP) by removing Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and sediments from urban and rural runoff. Quantified in terms of Total Phosphorus, pounds (lbs. TP/YR) removed can be utilized as stormwater offsets and/or potentially banked for future credit sale.
Given that regional initiatives and strong strategic partnerships are highly encouraged, Shenandoah County is partnering with the Town of Woodstock, Trout Unlimited and the Friends the of the North Fork Shenandoah River.
All projects are in high visibility, publicly accessible areas which will highlight the project benefits and link the projects via education signage to other projects in the watershed and region (i.e. Project Link). In addition to the educational and outreach opportunities generated, quantifiable water quality benefits are associated with the proposed projects upon implementation.
