The Heritage Cove neighborhood is situated along the Poquoson River, a tributary to the Chesapeake Bay, in Poquoson, Virginia. Stormwater runoff from approximately 42.5 acres of residential land was being directed into a failing stormwater BMP. The existing BMP was originally designed as a wetland enhanced dry pond, however, after inspection, retrofit and repair of the BMP was proposed.
The conceptual design included erosion stabilization at a partial breach, replacement and relocation of the principle spillway, the re-build of existing auxiliary spillway, and the re-establishment of the original marsh enhanced detention facility.
Project Role
Partnered with Bush Construction Corporation, BCE assisted with construction coordination and oversaw the field installation of the Armor Flex spillway. Responses to requests for information (RFI), field changes, and numerous site visits were standard throughout the project timeline. BCE summarized the assessment, identified design constraints, provided a conceptual retrofit and repair plan, and reviewed the as-built survey to issue certification.
